This review of brunch is part of my San Francisco Foodie Adventure.

The Dorian generously hosted my wife and I for brunch during our visit. The views expressed below are my own.

The Dorian

The Dorian is an ode to a bygone era, a modern-day parlor for the bohemians, libertines and freethinkers among us. A place to savor classic American fare, fine whiskey and craft martinis amid a turn-of-the-century Victorian manor. Its the kind of place where Oscar Wilde might’ve dropped in for a drink or Jerry Thomas would have tended the bar. The Dorian is the quintessential destination to enjoy good times for good time’s sake.

The Dorian is in San Francisco’s Marina District at 2001 Chestnut Street, at the Corner of Fillmore Street. The restaurant serves dinner Tuesday through Sunday and brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

The restaurant offers a seasonally driven Brunch Menu. Among the notable new offerings are Shakshuka with baked eggs, Moroccan spices and cumin yogurt; Huevos Rancheros with chorizo, crispy corn tortillas, black beans and avocado; Cast-Iron Pastrami Hash with bell peppers, potatoes, pickled red onion and a fried egg; Eggs Benedict with a house made English muffin, porchetta and hollandaise sauce; House Smoked Billionaire’s Bacon, thick cut, with barrel-aged WhistlePig syrup and pink peppercorn; and #Yolklife Sando with Hobb’s breakfast sausage, fried green tomato, avocado smash, nduja aioli and a sunny-side egg.

Arrival

My wife and I arrived for Weekend Brunch Delights at The Dorian San Francisco and were greeted by the host stand by a friendly staff member.

The staff member welcomed us and after learning my name, offered to seat us at one of the tables immediately.

The Dorian is a hip location that is centered around the bar near the main entrance with its featured frozen cocktail drink.

We were seated near the library like bookshelf with a variety of old books.

Brunch Experience

After we were seated, a server approached our table within a minute or so and welcomed us warmly to the Dorian.

The server suggested we start with Champagne and fruit juices to make our own mimosas. We accepted and she said she would be back shortly.

The server returned a few minutes later with the Champagne in a bucket with three different fruit juices. The server poured our first glasses and allowed us to select the juice we wanted to add.

The mimosas were excellent and we had options between orange juice, mango and white peach. The juices went well with the Champagne and it allowed us to relax before our meal.

The server recommended the Huevos Rancheros for entrees and the truffle fries for an appetizer.

We ordered the truffle fries for an appetizer and asked for more time for our entrees.

The server thanked us and she returned about five minutes later and asked if we decided to order.

We ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the Shakshuka for our entrees.

Appetizer

The truffle fries were served a few minutes later.

The fries were served in a basket on newspaper with a garlic aioli.

The fries were cooked perfectly and were crispy and had an excellent flavor. The fries were tossed with truffles, spices and a hint of cheese and were excellent. The aioli was tangy and it went well with the fries.

The server checked back with us while we were enjoying the fries.

After we finished, the server, cleared the fries and offered additional beverages.

Entrees

Our entrees were served within a few minutes of clearing the appetizer.

My wife ordered the Huevos Rancheros.

The Huevos Rancheros were served hot. The dish was presented attractively. The dish was served with crispy shells that were layered with the eggs and sausage and sauce.

The dish was bold in flavor and it was a wonderful recommendation. We both sampled it and thought it was incredible.

I ordered the Shakshuka.

The Shakshuka was served hot in a small skillet. It consisted of a rich tomato sauce with Mediterranean spices. The spices were fresh and the tomato sauce had an excellent flavor. Two sunny side up eggs were served on top.

We ordered Bloody Mary’s to accompany our entrees.

The bloody mary’s were fresh and they were poured strong and had a tangy mix.

The server checked back with us a couple times during the meal and she cleared the used dishes as we finished them.

After we finished the meal, the server suggested dessert or additional cocktails.

A manager visited our table to check in during the meal.

Departure

When we were ready to depart, the server provided the check and she thanked us sincerely and wished us a wonderful day.

The hostess also thanked us as we walked by the door.
