Alaska Airlines Buy Miles with up to a 40% Bonus

Alaska Airlines Buy Miles Promo

Alaska Airlines Buy Miles Promo

Several of my friends who live on the West Coast have made a decision to shift their travel allegiance from the suffering United Airlines to Alaska Airlines. Headquartered in Seattle, Alaska Airlines has definitely become a major player in the West Coast market.

Right now Alaska Airlines is running a fall Buy/Gift Miles Promotion where you can get up to 40% more miles when you purchase or share. This is a tiered promotion where you get more miles when you buy more.

You would have to purchase between 35,000 to 40,000 miles in order to receive the full 40% bonus. Each  1,000 miles costs $27.50 plus a 7.5% Federal Tax, so buying the full amount would total $1,182.50 for 56,000 miles (40,000 miles plus the 16,000 mile bonus). That works out to a cost of approximately 2.1 cents per mile.

Alaska Airlines partners with the following airlines:

  • American Airlines
  • Aeromexico
  • Air France
  • British Airways
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Emirates
  • Fiji Airways
  • KLM
  • Korean Air
  • PenAir
  • Qantas
  • Ravn Alaska

Also bookable with Alaska miles are Cathay Pacific and LAN, however, in order to book award space on those two airlines, you are required to call Alaska Airlines Reservations at
1-800-252-7522.

I think the biggest plus that I see in this award sale is the low price for tickets to Mexico. Oh how I wish that I were a West Coast resident!

Alaska recently enhanced its Mileage Plan by introducing mix-and-match, one-way partner awards and allowing miles flown on all its international partners to count toward MVP elite status. There is no minimum spend requirement to achieve Mileage Plan elite status, and customers enjoy generous availability on award redemptions, one-way travel awards, and combination miles-and-money award redemptions.
