This year the WestJet crew was in the Dominican Republic where the interactive Santa (in his blue suit) was on a sleigh in a video screen and once again each person shared their heart’s desire. The little town of Nuevo Renacer was chosen to receive this year’s Christmas miracle from WestJet. Along with presents and even ‘real’ snow, the residents of Nuevo Renacer also received a children’s play area.
Rather than share the video with you (I will supply the links, however), because I am sure you may have seen it, I would rather share the video behind the video… the video that explains why the company chose this community. Westjet has been involved with community outreach in the Dominican Republic since 2012. Since that time they have sent over 200 company employees there, hired over 40 local residents, and have helped the community in numerous ways, including building 23 homes.
WestJet is committed to giving back and is also very involved with the Make A Wish Foundation through its WestJet Cares for Kids program. The airline even made an incredible wish come true for Fathers Day. According to its website “our culture of caring extends beyond our aircraft and our airports and into the community at large.” And so it does.
So, here is the story behind the story…. You will find links to both Christmas videos at the bottom of the page.
