Hilton Hotels announced last year that they would be improving the check in process for travelers through digital check ins. Throughout the past year Hilton’s app has allowed guests to pre-select rooms after 6 am the day before they arrive for their stay. Initially rolled out for six of the Hilton brands, the feature will ultimately be available for all eleven of the Hilton brands.
This week, Hilton Worldwide announced that it has added a new “Digital Key” feature to its HHonors app. Those guests who have used their smartphone for digital check-in will be asked if they would like a Digital Key during their stay. If desired, it is issued as soon as the guest’s room is ready the day of arrival. HHonors members who chose these options can digitally check in, select their room from those available, open their door upon arrival, and even request amenities before and during their stay.
Digital Key beta testing began earlier this month at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia, It will continue through 2015 at select U.S. properties across four brands including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Canopy by Hilton. Digital Key will first be available for iOS users and, later this year, will be offered to Android users. HHonors members who use the Digital key this year at the beta hotels will also be eligible to receive 2500 HHonors Bonus points.
In their recent announcement, Hilton says: “HHonors members can use digital check-in and room selection at more than 4,100 properties globally – and those who have used it have shared exceptional feedback,” said Geraldine Calpin, senior vice president and global head of Digital, Hilton Worldwide. “With Digital Key, we are making the guest experience even more seamless through our improved mobile app.”
