United Airlines has been in the news quite a bit lately with its United Paws program<\/a>. United has ‘hired’ trained therapy dogs to work in their major hubs for the hectic week of Christmas travel.\u00a0@LCC K9 Comfort Dogs<\/a>\u00a0and PeopleAnimalsLove.org<\/a> are two of the organizations that are helping and working with\u00a0their handlers to greet passengers in order to help lower some of the stress of travel during the holidays. Now in its second season, the program began on a limited basis last year in smaller airports around the country.<\/p>\n

The United Paws dogs\u00a0are scheduled to\u00a0greet travelers outside of security and will be \u00a0scattered throughout the Chicago, Cleveland,\u00a0Denver,\u00a0Houston,\u00a0Los Angeles,\u00a0Newark\u00a0and Washington-Dulles airports through today. United is also having a photo contest for people who\u00a0follow @united<\/a> on Twitter and\/or Instagram (\u201cPlatform\u201d) and (1) post an eligible photograph containing your dog in one of the following travel settings: airport, United Club environment or \u00a0on a United plane and\/or (B) wearing United branded gear or costume. Include the hastags #UnitedPaws<\/strong> and #UnitedContest<\/strong> with your tweet and\u00a0will be entered to win two roundtrip tickets<\/strong> to anywhere United Airlines flies in the continental\u00a0United States,\u00a0Alaska,\u00a0Canada\u00a0and\u00a0Mexico<\/p>\n

United Airlines will also be donating $1 per post to local dog shelters and organizations<\/strong>. The official rules can be found at this link.<\/a><\/h4>\n

I think this is a brilliant move on the part of United Airlines which has definitely be receiving a heavy share of criticism since its merger with Northwest. Nothing brings out the best in people better than our furry four legged friends.<\/p>\n

Washington, DC\u00a0 –\u00a0People Animals Love<\/a> <\/strong>–\u00a0PAL was founded by Dr. Earl Strimple, a Washington, D.C. veterinarian, who witnessed the bond between animals and humans and recognized\u00a0its many\u00a0benefits. In order to explore the many ways society could benefit from the human-animal bond, Dr. Strimple established\u00a0PAL in 1982. The program has worked with both St. Francis Center and\u00a0Lorton Prison, as well as being involved in area after school programs.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Airport –\u00a0LAX P.U.P Program<\/a> (Pets Unstressing Passengers) – <\/strong>The PUP\u00a0program helps to provide an overall enhanced customer experience, providing stress relief and comfort to passengers through interaction with pets. \u00a0All of the dogs are registered with Therapy Dogs Inc. and work with their handlers throughout the airport.<\/p>\n

San Francisco Airport –\u00a0SFO WAG Brigade<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0<\/strong>The Wag Brigade works to bring trained dogs to ‘work’ at the airport in order to help make passenger travel less stressful and more enjoyable. The dogs are supplied by the San Francisco SPCA\u00a0and have been certified through its Animal Assisted Therapy Program. They are carefully selected for temperment and will be wearing vests that read ‘Pet Me!’.<\/p>\n

Illinois<\/strong> – Lutheran Church Charities K9 Comfort Dogs<\/a> – As an outreach of Lutheran Church Charities, the K9 Comfort Dogs provide comfort and care to those in need. One of their special pups, @RuthieComfortDog<\/a>, spent her first mission comforting the families following\u00a0the Sandy Hook tragedy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
