The Coolest Hyatt Atrium Might Be In… Cleveland, Ohio?

There are a lot of swanky hotels around the world with some pretty swanky lobbies. But have you ever seen a hotel atrium like this?

Pretty swanky, huh?

Pretty swanky, huh?

Believe it or not, that’s the inside of the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade!

It’s truly remarkable, but is a bit of a hidden gem as the main entrance to the hotel doesn’t give anything away.

Apart from the amazing atrium, the hotel is pretty average. During my most recent stay, I was happy to have a room that was not directly off the atrium (there’s something about having people walk by your window that feels distinctly motel-like). It was a one night stay, and I didn’t really spend any time in the room apart from sleeping, but I appreciated that it was spacious and had a shower with ridiculously good water pressure.

I also appreciated that since my room was on the 4th floor, I got a nice, up-close view of the gargoyles on that level. Apparently they’re all different (though I didn’t make a full loop to verify)!

This property is located right in the heart of downtown Cleveland, so is quite convenient if you find yourself in the area. I was there for work on a paid stay – but if you’re looking to redeem points, it’s a Hyatt Category 2 (so 8K points per night).

In case you’re worried about being around a bunch of teenagers who are up to no good, rest assured that “The Arcade” isn’t that kind of arcade! It was actually one of the first indoor shopping centers in the country, and was renovated in 2001 to become a Hyatt. It’s a pretty cool story, and you can read more about it here.

How about one more shot of that amazing atrium? :)

So cool!

So cool!

So can you top it? Have you ever been to a Hyatt (or any hotel for that matter) with a cooler atrium?

I’ll nominate the Hyatt at the Orlando Airport not for the Atrium per se, but for the balcony views of the security line.

I remember stopping by here for lunch a few years back…great place for a meal and to do a little people-watching!

This looks cool in the photos, but the property is really a dump. Take a visit to the food service establishments on the ground floor at the far end of the building. This once was a thriving market, now this is a fairly desolate building inside. Compare it to the Queen Victoria Mall in Sydney. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3647/3426495838_6af81bfbed_z.jpg

Curious . . . is this old architecture that they have adapted to modern purpose, or a new build meant to reflect a bygone era? Very nice design, regardless . . .

It’s the former – the hotel was converted from an old shopping mall (reportedly the oldest indoor mall in the country!)
