Booked Aruba for Our 30th Anniversary

Time flies when you are having fun! In less than 10 months my husband and I will be married 30 years. The years have certainly gone by quickly as we enjoy each other’s company every day together. I met my husband just after he returned from a six month travel sabbatical. We talked about his adventures and I new that as a couple many wonderful trips were in our future. Never did I think we would traveling as frequently as we do. I am so fortunate that we are wonderful travel companions.

We went to Aruba for the first time in January and planned to go back again soon. It was an easy relaxing trip, so when the flights I wanted became available on US Airways using low level miles it was easy for my husband and I to agree that Aruba would be a great choice for us to celebrate our 30th anniversary. For 60,000 miles and $120 we are booked on US Airways for a 10 day Aruba trip in January 2013. I put our flights on a three day hold by calling US Airways reservations. To book on the phone there is a $40 fee per ticket. I was told I could call back before I booked to release the seats and then book my tickets on the web to avoid paying an extra $80 for our two tickets.

Before I called back I saw that of our three flights, only our direct flight to Aruba had just one ticket available, so I was concerned that if our tickets on hold were released two tickets would not be available for 60,000 miles for our dates. When I called to book my flights, I asked the agent for her help. After I explained that I am not a gambler, the trip is for our 30th wedding anniversary and I wanted to avoid the fees. She responded that my best option would be to book through her and have her waive all of the fees. So I immediately took that option and saved all the fees and only had to pay the taxes of $60 per ticket. Since I have the US Airways Premier World MasterCard we saved 5,000 miles per ticket. Looking forward to celebrating our 30th anniversary in Aruba. More about our hotel bookings for this trip in another post.
