Getting to #FTULAX on a Budget

As my first time going to any kind of frequent flyer event I am obviously very giddy but also want to do it by using and earning points of course 🙂 Buying the ticket for $99 for a two and a half day event while meeting all the travel & points/miles gurus and junkies is totally worth it and a no brainer for me!

For an AA economy flight I got mine using only 20,000 Avios from IAH to LAX saving me $330.  Doing some searching I also found other places with flights from Fri-Sun!
25k Avios + $5 RT from IAD or DCA
20k Avios + $5 RT from ORD or DFW,
9k +$5 from STL

For a step by step way to book flights on AA using Avios check out the Points Guy’s post.

The Sheraton Gateway hotel that was set up for the event is already booked for the group rate so other options include:

The Radisson near the airport within walking distance to the Sheraton is an option and you can take advantage of the BOGO promotion going on. You must register and book by Oct 31. There is also a cash and points option of 10k + $87 per night.

The Four Points by Sheraton is also within walking distance and it is going for 3k spg points per night. If you don’t want to use your points, you can book the hotel with the 40% off second nights which gets you 2 nights for $159 + tax.
