Festivals in TX for 2013

CN Traveller has an article of the best festivals in the world. I enjoy going to festivals and events and I’d thought I’d share some taking place Texas for 2013. I’m going to try to hit all of them this year but we will see!

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo– Starting off with the World Championship BBQ, this event brings thousands to Reliant Stadium to watch the many country and other genre singers, enjoy the carnival rides, watch cowboys get bucked, and browse the many vendors selling everything country. Event runs from Feb 25- March 17.

Austin SXSW– People come from all over for this music and independent film festival. Shows, events and expos are hosted throughout Austin. Also enjoy the local eateries I’ve written about. The event is from March 8-17.

Chili Fest– Try the best chili in TX and enjoy great country music. Or if you have a great chili recipe then enter a team in the competition. There is also a living social deal you can purchase. Event is from April 5-6.

San Antonio Fiesta– Texans always find an excuse to party. Enjoy live music, fantastic Mexican food, concerts, parades, and art exhibits. Event is from April 18-28.

Texas State Fair – Anyone who said you can’t deep fry anything hasn’t been to the TX State Fair. Enjoy carnival rides, fried oreos, and sculptures made out of butter?! The Red River Rivalry also takes place during this time. Event is from Sept 27 – Oct 20

ACL Fest– This Austin City Limits festival is the biggest music festival in Texas and hosts big name musicians as well as local bands. These tickets are hard to come by and a place to stay just as hard to find. Sign up for their mailing list to get notified of when tickets go on sale. This years even is from Oct 4-6 and Oct 11-13.

Corpus Christi Bike Fest – Previously held at South Padre Island, this event brings bikers and their families to enjoy bikes  and the beach! This event is from Oct 11-13.

New Braunfels WurstFest– If you want to get a taste of old German culture and enjoy the best sausage anywhere, then this event is for you.  Listen to German style music, eat German food, and see  dancing and fun German costumes. This event runs from Nov 1-10.

Texas Renaissance Festival– The largest and longest in TX, this Renaissance festival has different themed weekends where you can dress up or go as is to see jousting, eat turkey legs, watch comedy skits, throw tomatoes, eat kettle corn, enter costume contests and watch the fireworks in the evening.  The even runs from Oct 12- Dec 1 and is an hr north of Houston.
