US City in Review: Corpus Christi, TX

The City by the Bay and my home town, this Texas city is a fun place for families. Not only does Padre Island near by have miles of beaches which you can see crowded with people during spring break but there are also attractions to take your kids.

The city has the Texas State Aquarium  which has been recently renovated and has animals such as sea otters, turtles, sting rays you can touch and dolphins which put on a little show and other adorable animals. Near the aquarium, you can also visit the USS Lexington which is a retired aircraft carrier which has a museum and a 3d Theater. It is even said to be haunted!

The city also has a small water park for families called Hurrican Alley and they are currently running specials for spring break! The city is also is planning to open a Shlitterbahn water park on Padre Island but it is not scheduled to open until Spring 2015

Corpus Christi has great seafood and to celebrate our love, nearby towns host an Oysterfest and a Shrimporee which is the largest in Texas. CC also hosts many other events such as the Jazz Festival which I have been to. It is so fun to hear all the great music and performers that come to entertain us. Another event the city is hosting which will be new in 2013 is the BikeFest which was previously hosted in South Padre Island. It will be fun to hear all the roaring of those motorcycles!

If you like sports then you should check out our minor league team the Hooks play at the Whataburger field and then grabs some drinks  and food and catch a band playing at Brewsters Street Icehouse.

Where to stay with points

If you want to be near the bay and the marina then you can stay at the Holiday Inn which has an area of sand for the kids to play in and goes for 25k points/night or 20k + $40.

If you would like to stay near the Aquarium and Lexington then you can stay at the Radisson for 38k Club Carlson points and this has a larger beach to have fun at. Here is a great review of the hotel by the FrugalTravelGuys

If you would like to stay at North Padre Island with miles of sand and waves, then you can stay at :
Holiday Inn right on the beach for 25k points or 20k + $40 per night
Hawthorne suites by Wyndham for 16k points. You have to cross the street to get to the beach.
Comfort Suites for 30k points and you have to cross the street to get to the beach.

Enjoy the wind, waves, and seagulls 🙂
