Lots of Free Activities in St. Louis

If you are in St. Louis, MO and are looking for fun and free activities, then there are surprisingly quite a few things to do that I recommend.

Free Admission to the Zoo – I love visiting animals at the zoo and was ecstatic to learn that they have free admission!  Make sure to check out this schedule to see the hours and any closings. If you are interested in doing anything else within the zoo besides seeing the animals such as zoo petting, movies, or safari tours, then you do have to pay for those. However, I thoroughly enjoyed just looking at the animals being themselves. There was even an elephant who did some tricks for us.

Free admission to the Science Center – What better way to have fun and have an educational experience by going to the science center. There was lots of families there and there are lots of things for kids to play and interact with. There are other activities within the science center which cost such as the IMAX theater, planetarium, and any special exhibits but there is plenty to do for free.

Free admission to the Arts Museum – St. Louis can get hot during the summer, so cool down and see a ton of pictures and exhibits for free here.

Free tour at the Anheiser-Busch Brewery – This place was pretty awesome. Before the tour you get to see the displays that they have and read a little bit about the history of the Brewery.
Busch WagonFor the tour, they take you to see the Clydesdale horses and part of the brewery
HorsesBreweryAt the end of the tour, you get a free beer or beverage at their bar and you get to hang out either indoors or at their outdoor biergarten to have food and more drinks.

  1. We were on St Louis last year and did a few of those things like the science center. Isn’t the gateway arch free also? Or maybe it was just fairly cheap…

The funny thing about that trip that I remember is that the kids equated St Louis with the hotel. So while we were out at the sites they kept asking to go back to “St. Louis” to go swming in the hotel pool 🙂

I stayed at the Drury Inn outside of St Louis and it had that same effect on me too 🙂 The arch isnt free but there is a museum at the base that is free.

  2. I second the Missouri History Museum and the Old Courthouse Museum from your link. Both are also easily accessible via MetroLink, which is a plus. If you’re a road geek/Route 66 buff, the old Chain of Rocks Bridge – the one with a curve halfway across the river – is also free, and you can walk or bicycle across from the Illinois side to the Missouri side.
