American Express for the past several years has had a shop small business promotion on Black Friday where you could spend a certain amount at designated small businesses and they would give you statement credit.
Well this August they are having a similar promotion at select cities. The cities include Houston, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Philadelphia, and Sacremento.
The promotion is that you must register you American Express credit card between Aug 1-31, spend at least $5 at designated small businesses between Aug 1-31, and get a $5 statement credit up to 3x per card.
Registration is limited so make sure to do this asap. Authorized users can also register for this promotion so the more cards the better. The statement credit will be posted 90 days after Aug 31, 2014 and the credit may be reversed if purchase is returned or canceled.
In Houston there are thousands of service, restaurant, and shopping stores I could visit. If they offer gift cards at a particular place then this would be a good idea to get to maximize the promotion.
FYI I tried registering my Blue Bird card and got a message that it is not eligible for the promotion.
