Southwest to Discontinue Flights to Bahamas from Many Cities

Earlier in the year I had done a post about all the awesome international travel destinations that will be available in various cities in 2014 on Southwest. I was excited about this change because I and many would be able to take advantage of using the Companion Pass to travel to these great beach destinations.

Well I was starting to plan for my next summer vacation from Houston to the Bahamas and I got this lovely error message…

Southwest Bahamas

Ok, how could service be discontinued when it just started a few months ago?! I also started checking other cities around the US and got the same error message that service is to be discontinued in April to the Bahamas. This includes all cities in TX, Chicago, New Orleans, Albuquerque, etc. I believe the reason these flight are being discontinued is because they connect in Baltimore and the fight times will change from Baltimore to Nassau.

The funny part is that even though there will be no flight there starting in April, you can still book a flight back. So in theory you can fly one airline there and then Southwest back.

So if you were planning to go to the Bahamas using Southwest Rapid Reward points, I would consider doing this sooner rather than later in light of this change.

On a happier note for Houstonians, Southwest will start a Non Stop flight to Aruba on March 7, 2015 and will be on Saturdays. FYI Southwest currently has a HOU-AUA flight but you connect in MCO.

A great deal on these points and a fantastic deal if you have the Companion Pass.

Since Southwest flies to Nassa on the old AirTran route, why can’t I book a flight from Nassau to Little Rock which are both served by Southwest?

They have changed their whole structure when it come to flying to the Bahamas. You can only go there from BWI as of now. I would go with another airline
