Visiting Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island in Canada

I recently came back from an Alaskan Cruise where one of the stops was Vancouver Island in Canada. My family and I had a chance to visit one of the loveliest gardens I’ve ever seen, and if you ever have a chance, I highly recommend going.

The Butchart Gardens was started by Jennie Butchart in the early 1900s. Her husband had a cement enterprise which led him to mine limestone from a quarry on their property. After he exhausted the deposits, Jennie wanted to revive and beautify the empty hole so she brought in tons of topsoil  and began her garden which is now called the Sunken Gardens. The decades that followed, she started adding different types of gardens to her property which eventually led to what is now a world renowned garden where thousand visit each year. Over 70 gardeners are currently employed here to keep Jennie’s vision thriving.

If you are getting hungry from all the exploring, you can have lunch or afternoon tea at the Dinning Room restaurant at the gardens. For afternoon tea, you can enjoy a cup of your choice of tea and some savories and sweets. Reservations recommended.
