You Can Now Book Hyatt Points and Cash Online

The option to book Hyatt points and cash has been available since early 2014, however, you had to call in to make a reservation. They have finally made it possible to make a points and cash reservation online which takes the guess work out of which hotels on what days offer this rate.

Here is a chart of the points and cash rates for each hotel category:

Hyatt Points & Cash

Some positive aspects of points and cash:

The nights still count towards elite qualifying nights
Your suite night upgrades from Diamond status or your Hyatt credit card can be used on these rates
This allows you to stretch your Hyatt points

Some negative aspects of points and cash:

This award type is capacity controlled so many hotels may not offer this option
You still have to pay taxes on the cash portion of your stay and you still have to pay the resort fees (unlike a room booked fully with points)
Points and cash are not available for the all inclusive and residence club resorts

I did a dummy search for a Hyatt hotel in Austin, TX and found that the Driskill had a points & cash option. This option saves you half the points and more that half of the room rate since this hotel tends to go for $300 to $400 a night.

Hyatt Driskill

I’m glad for this improvement but there are still some things that are on my Hyatt wish list:

The ability to make points reservations online for all-inclusive properties. You currently have to call in.
Extending the points and cash to their all-inclusive properties.
Eliminating category restrictions to their Chase free night award
Allowing their Hyatt gift cards to be used outside the US
A calendar view for rates instead of having to check each date individually

Is there anything on your Hyatt wish list?
