Reminder That You Can Load 2,500 per Day for BlueBird

I’m not sure how I missed it or forgot about it but you can now load up to $2,500 on your BlueBird at a WM ATM per day. This has been effective since the beginning of July. The max per month is still $5,000. To alleviate any confusion, the WM ATMs look like this

If your WM does not have an ATM with which to load cards, then you can load up to $1,999.99 per day at the registers.

Today I went to my trusty WM and was able to load $2,500 on one of my cards. Just a word of caution that some ATMs have a security threshold on it which would require a manager log in if you load more than $1,500 at a time. To solve this problem, just load the first $1,500, wait 10 minutes, then load the last $1,000.

All this really means is less trips to WM but works for me! I have been able to load Simon Visa GC and Best Buy Visa GC as of today. I know there have been issues with people not able to load certain types of Visa GCs so word of caution before you buy tons of GCs without first trying it out to see if it works for you at your WM.

I don’t have a Serve card but the load limit per day has also been increased to $2,500.

Thanks to the Frequent Miler who posted about this change.

  1. Does the limit of 3 loads per transaction still exist? I am loading $200 Visa gift cards from Staples and in the past could not load more than 3 in one transaction with a cashier, no money center express machine at the WMs that are close to me. So my max transaction is $600 and I often have issues if I want to do more than one transaction with the same cashier.

As far as I know…nothing has changed with the loads per transaction so it looks like you are still limited

    • how do you do multi loads in one transaction please? at which step do you add the 2nd & 3rd GCs please?

For the kiosk, you can only do one card at a time. Ron is talking about loading your BB using a cashier which allows you to do more than one card in a transaction but I try to avoid cashiers when I can.

        • i see. ive only once tried the cashier. loaded 1 GC successfully. then asked to load again.. cashier asked to see card.. said cant use giftcards.. no go

Ya, never show your card to the cashier. If they ask just say nevermind and go to another cashier or stick with WM ATM…its less hassle

          • For those referring to ATM, are you referring to the large walmart money center express machine. My Walmart has a smaller machine in customer service area that says ATM, which I assume to only be an ATM. Just confirming that I’m not missing an opportunity to load without a cashier.

Yes I’m talking about the large ATMs. I’ve included a picture in the post now just in case 🙂

  2. @giddyforpoints
i thought BB capped WM GC loads at $1k/month? since when is it $5k please?
i tried loading in July after i had already reached $1k in july and the kiosk rejected the load. please explain.

BB have always had a 5k monthly load limit. I am not sure why the kiosk rejected the load. Try loading again. When you are loading, are you using the Walmart MoneyCard button on the screen?

      • strange. ill try it again today.
my local kiosk displays “$ card” & “BB”. ive used both, usually BB

  3. I just switched back to bluebird from serve because of how problematic serve seems to be. My latest credit card churn I went 3 for 3 and got 3 fixed point cards. Navy federal flagship, wells fargo propel world and Capital one venture card. Capital one is by far the most flexible as it is very similar to barclay card how the points can be redeemed for travel purchases. I have about 6500 in spend in the next 3 months between the three to reach the bonuses for them all. What Gift cards would you recommend and what Walmarts in the Houston area would you recommend to help me reach this goal? I did read the simon mall cards are going up in price.

Hi Ryan, since Simon is going up, I recommend going to Memorial City Mall to buy the Master Card GC which are $2 per card. The Walmart I usually go to is the one near Holister on 290. The ATM machine is 90% working. There is also a Walmart on Post Oak south on 610 but that atm is always 50% working. Also feel free to join the Houston Travel Group we started.
