Visiting Itiquira Falls in Brazil

While visiting Brazil, I had a chance to see Cachoeira de Itiquira ( Itiquira Falls ). To get to the waterfall, it is about a 2 hour drive from Brasilia but it is definitely worth the trek!

To get in to see the falls, there is an entrance fee of about 15 Reais which is approximately $6.70 USD. There is a little bit of a hike which is paved to get close enough to take amazing pictures of the waterfall which is possibly the tallest in Brazil.

Bring your water.shoes and bathing suit because you can get into a few spots that are near the falls. The water is very cold but it feels good when the sun shines down on you. If you are feeling extra adventurous, you can hike all the way to the base of where the waterfall initially drops. I went and I can say it was pretty crazy of me. When you get to the base, there is cold mist all around you, the rock are a challenge to climb, and the water is freezing, but it was such an exhilarating experience.

It was a great little adventure and I recommend it to anyone who is traveling near Brasilia. If you are interested in seeing attractions in Brasilia, check out this post on places and buildings I’ve visited.
