Updates From the World of Miles and Points 2/19
I know it has only been a few days since my last post of this kind but as I mentioned, I am trying to get on track for doing one to summarize miscellaneous news items each week. I think Sunday is probably the best day to do this since it is typically a pretty slow day in the world of miles and points, so here we go. There aren’t too many items from the past few days, but hopefully you will find some value in these.
Starwood has announced their annual hotel category changes. As expected, more hotels are going up in category than are going down. New categories go into effect on March 1, so if you are planning a trip, you may want to take a look at the list and see if you should book before then. Gary tells us a little bit more over at View From the Wing. Details HERE.
United has started a new service that will let you send in your unused store gift cards and they will give you miles for them. The Frequent Miler thinks this is a horrible deal and The Points Guy thinks it is slightly better. In general, you probably won’t want to take advantage of this unless you have no other way to get rid of your gift cards or if you really need a few extra miles to top off an award. Details HERE and HERE.
Lucky over at One Mile at a Time tells us a bit about the American Express Link, Like, Love promotion that is ongoing through Facebook. In addition to finding a $50 credit for some IHG properties, he reminds us to keep checking back because they change offers regularly. Details HERE.
Lucky has once again given us the interesting video of the week. This time it is an Airphil Express Airbus 320 that didn’t quite stop by the time the runway ended. You have to wonder why that passenger was taking video as the plane was landing, but since they weren’t told to prepare for landing until right before touchdown, it doesn’t look like they were following the rules too strictly. I personally find it amazing that all of the passengers remained so calm. Details and video HERE.
