  1. Hi, can you churn Bank of America Spirit Mastercard to get the bonus again? If so, how soon can you cancel and how long do you have to wait to reapply? Thanks!

    • I honestly haven’t heard of anyone trying to churn the Bank of America Spirit Mastercard. With their odd pricing structure, limited route network, and lack of partners, most credit card churners concentrate on bigger programs. That having been said, if Spirit works well for your travel needs, it might be worth trying.

There are several reports of people churning the Bank of America Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines cards and churnability is usually dependent on the issuing bank. In the case of the Alaska and Hawaiian cards, it appears that you can get a new one every 3-4 months. Data is conflicting on whether you need to cancel your previous card before applying for the new one or not. You should also note that it is a good idea to not put your frequent flyer number on the application for the second card and just let Bank of America assign you a new number. Because of this, churning would only work well if Spirit will let you combine multiple accounts.

It doesn’t look like there is available data on churning any other Bank of America cards. My gut feeling is that the Spirit Mastercard would churn like the Alaska and Hawaiian cards, but that is just a guess. If you want to give it a try, I would be glad to hear how it works out for you. Sorry I couldn’t give you a more concrete answer. Hope this helps.

  2. Just reading your MMS interview – nice! Have you even looked at changing your colors? The black back and white letters make my eyes hurt. Maybe ask readers. I could not read your blog each day with the current colors and then the RED links. Ugg. Maybe just me. Thanks! – Rene

    • Rene, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the input. It’s interesting that the links are showing up red for you, since I have them set to blue in the control panel. I guess that’s a case of different browsers displaying differently. As far as the black background goes, I originally set it that way because it really made the photos pop, but if it makes the blog hard for people to read, I will take a look at some other options this weekend. Even with pretty pictures, a blog isn’t much good if people don’t want to read it.

    • Thanks for the compliments. I submitted the referral and you should have an email from American Express soon. You should be aware that even through the referral process, the sign-up bonus is still 25k MR points with $2000 spend in 3 months, not the 50k that it used to be. If that is ok with you, go ahead and click through the link in the email to apply. Thanks for your support!
