Grand Hyatt San Francisco Hotel –
I recently took a mileage run weekend trip which originally included going cross country to New York and back; however, due to the East Coast Snowstorm, it ended up being two nights in San Francisco.
The trip report will cover the following posts:
Weekend Mileage Run Trip Report – Grand Hyatt San Francisco Hotel
The Grand Hyatt San Francisco is located in Union Square in a high rise building in hear of the city. I booked the reservation via Hyatt.com and had a rate of around $160 per-night.
When I arrived there was a door man outside who held the door open for me. He welcomed me to the hotel and invited me into the lobby.
The lobby was busy with activity. It appeared that a large group of people was gathering as everyone was wearing red colors. Perhaps it was a meeting or a sporting event.
The lobby featured a unique setting for the reception desk. It consisted of a group of four stations that were in a diamond shape which seemed a little awkward because you would have to walk around others if you were assisted by one of the attendants in the back.
The area was clean and the lighting was slightly dim to set a comfortable mood.
In the middle of the lobby was a large elevator bank. Around the corner was a business center area as well as tables and chairs.
I approached the reception desk and joined a line of about four other guests. After waiting for three minutes, I was invited to one of the reception desks in the back. The agent smiled, made eye contact with me and welcomed me to the Hyatt. The agent offered assistance. After I requested to check in, she asked for my name, identification card and credit card. I provided the documents and she thanked me and used my name and welcomed me to the hotel. The agent confirmed the length of stay was one night and she thanked me for my Platinum status. I mentioned that I was actually Diamond and she asked if my status may have lapsed. I said no and that I qualified in December. I showed her the app, which listed me as Diamond. She apologized and offered a late check out as well as asked me if I would like points for the amenity. I accepted the points and she thanked me. The agent informed me about the Grand Club and provided a card which listed the hours of operation. The agent informed me that I had a king view room on the 27th floor and she provided instructions for the elevators. She also mentioned that the club lounge was located on the 32nd floor. The agent thanked me using my name and she offered additional assistance. After I declined, she presented the key packet and she invited me to enjoy my stay.
I proceeded to the elevator area and took the elevator up to my floor.
I was assigned room 2703 which was a king size room that had a view of the city.
I utilized the key to open the door. When I opened the door, I found a clean room with a desk with a usable computer chair, seating area, king size bed and television with a variety of channels.
The room also featured a closet with a safe and plenty of space for storing my personal items.
The bathroom featured a decorative sink, shower/bath tub combo and a standard toilet. The bathroom size was medium.
The linens were clean and they were soft and comfortable. The bath amenities were setup neatly and they had a pleasant scent.
The room was facing the Starlight Lounge as well as it offered a view of part of the city skyline. It also had some views of the union square area.
The air conditioning unit ran constantly and it was rather loud. The water pressure in the shower was lower than I would have preferred. The room also had a couple scuff marks but was free of other defects.
The curtains were electronic for the blackout ones which could be controlled near the door and by the bed.
The television offered a variety of HD channels and the picture quality was good. The WiFi signal was good and the connection functioned without issue.
The bed was comfortable and I was able to get a good nights rest.
My Diamond Status gave me access to the Grand Club Lounge. The lounge is open throughout the day. Breakfast is served between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM on the weekend and 5:30 AM – 9:30 AM on weekdays. Afternoon beverages are available between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM Daily. Evening hors d’oeuvres are offered between 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily.
I took the elevator up to the club lounge which was located on the 32nd floor. The door required my key card for access.
When I entered the room I saw a reception desk with a sign asking guests to sign in. The room was divided into two sections and it offered large windows which overlooked two directions of the city including a view of the water.
Tables and chairs were setup throughout the room. Several televisions were tuned to sports and the news.
A buffet area was available that featured a variety of items. There was one hot food item offered and that evening it was pizza. The buffet also featured fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, bread, and snack mixes.
The lounge features an honor bar which had a selection of beer and wines available for $3 per bottle or glass. Top shelf alcohol beverages were available for $4 a glass. A variety of mixers were available. In addition, soda, water and juice was available in refrigerators. A coffee machine was available for various coffee beverages.
The honor bar worked where there were cards present that guests were asked to fill out listing how many glasses you consumed. There were five different beer options. For wine there were two varieties of red and two varieties of white wine. In addition, a sparkling option was available.
Two colleagues were present in the lounge and they were attending to the buffet as well as cleaning the used dishes and glasses from the tables. They were also noted to offer drinks to guests seated at the tables.
I selected pizza, bread and cheese and a lemonade from the buffet.
The pizza was served warm. It consisted of a mushroom and shredded pork with vegetables on flat bread. The bread was crispy and the sauce was flavorful. Three or four different cheeses were available and they were fresh and had a good taste and flavor. The bread was crusty and it tasted fresh. The lemonade was served in a plastic container and it was fresh.
While I was enjoying the appetizer the attendant approached me and greeted me and welcomed me to the lounge. The colleague offered to remove a used plate and I accepted and she thanked me.
When I was ready to depart the lounge, the colleague, smiled, made eye contact with me and she wished me a good evening.
The lounge was approximately 70% occupied throughout the time I was in it in the evening.
I returned to the lounge the the breakfast service. When I arrived there were two colleagues present at the reception desk. One of them greeted me and welcomed me into the club. The colleague informed me about the offerings and he asked me to help myself and to sit anywhere I would like.
The buffet area offered two hot items as well as several chilled items. The hot items were scrambled eggs and oatmeal. For the scrambled eggs there were a variety of toppings available including fresh vegetables, bacon, ham, cheese as well as two varieties of hot sauce. The other options at the buffet included fresh fruit, cereal, bread, bagels and a selection of pastries. Orange juice, grapefruit juice and Pomegranate juice. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate was also available.
The buffet was setup neatly and it was stocked with plenty of items. The dishes, cups and flatware were all clean and there were black linen napkins available.
I selected eggs with veggies, ham, bacon and cheese and a croissant from the buffet. I also had a glass of orange juice and made a cappuccino from the coffee machine.
The eggs were served hot. The toppings were fresh and they were an excellent option on the buffet. The croissant; however, was slightly dry. The cappuccino was rich and flavorful.
A colleague greeted me at the table and offered to remove used dishes. The colleague thanked me and she kept the area clean.
When I was ready to depart the lounge, a colleague at the reception desk thanked me sincerely and he asked me to have a good day.
When I was ready to depart the hotel, I approached the front desk and was greeted by a colleague who invited me to the desk. After he offered assistance, I requested to check out. The colleague asked for my room number. After I provided it, he used my name and he inquired about my stay. I said that it was excellent and he thanked me. The colleague reviewed the charges and confirmed the method of payment. The colleague thanked me sincerely using my name and he offered additional assistance. After I declined, he wished me a good day.
I departed the hotel by foot.
Overall I enjoyed the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. I was surprised at first when my Hyatt status was not correct according to the hotels system; however, I felt the recovery by the colleague at the front desk was friendly and polite and it was nice I was able to utilize the benefits of the lounge. The room was clean and I was able to sleep comfortably. I felt that the Grand Club lounge experience was excellent and I felt that the food offerings in the evening as well as the morning were excellent. I would stay at this Grand Hyatt again in the future.
