DoubleTree by Hilton Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel Review

 

The Tropicana Las Vegas hotel was recently renovated and is currently flagged as a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel. I booked the Tropicana for $55 using the HiltonFamilyMVP public corporate code rate and I thought it was a fairly good deal since the hotel honors Hilton HHonors elite status.

I took the Westcliff (WAX) Airport Bus from McCarran Las Vegas International airport (LAS) for $2.00. It was only a 15 minute ride and I decided to try out public transportation in Las Vegas for the first time. The bus leaves from the Zero Level (lowest level of the airport) if you’re interested in saving money and you have a lot of time and patience.

The Tropicana hotel is located on the Las Vegas Strip across from the MGM Grand, Excalibur, and New York New York hotel.

 

There is a general check in line and a Hilton HHonors members line. It doesn’t specify Gold or Diamonds so I assume non-elites can also stand in the line as long as they have signed up for an Hilton HHonors number online.

As a Gold elite guest, I was upgraded to the Bungalow Tower with an outdoor balcony. The Bungalow Tower was also the most recently renovated tower at the Tropicana.

The room was adequate in size and contained a large work desk, TV, king Bed, and an oversized plush chair. The room and décor accented well with the red curtains.

The bathroom was very small and contained a shower with a single basin sink.

The best part of the hotel room was the outdoor balcony boasting views of Bagatelle Beach Club and views of the outdoors.

As a Gold elite guest, I was offered continental breakfast vouchers to be used at Beach Café in the morning. The voucher states that you can buy up to the full breakfast for $10 more.

The strip location is pretty seedy and doesn’t have the best clientele, but if you want to save money, this is the place to be. The clientele gets better as you head towards the Cosmopolitan, Aria, and Bellagio hotels. Also beware of the bridge dangers around the area as there are often beggars, homeless, scammers, and drug dealers. If you need a cheap and clean place to stay, then this hotel is for you.
