Trip Report: 48 Hour Mileage Run Vacation to Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Atlanta

Last year in September of 2012, I booked a same day mileage run for travel in July 2013. My original itinerary was LAX-MSP-CLE-ATL-LAX and I purchased it for $159 with taxes included. There were several schedule changes throughout the year and I called the Gold Medallion line to see if I could get a one day stopover in Cleveland. The agent told me that since the itinerary went through several schedule changes, she said the routing was open. My eyes lighted up when I heard that.

I told her to route me from LAX-SLC-MSP-CLE-ATL-LAX with a one night stopover in CLE. This meant that I could actually enjoy seeing Cleveland since I will be spending the night there.  I was going to take advantage of Delta’s Same Day Confirmed policy and take an earlier flight from LAX-SLC so I could spend about 6 hours there, but I decided to change my mind.

Yesterday, I sent a message to @DeltaAssist via Twitter to help me change my routing again. I actually wanted my original segments back because I could same day confirm for a later flight on MSP-CLE so I could spend a few hours in Minneapolis. This will be my first time to Minneapolis and Cleveland outside of the airport terminal. I’ve been to Atlanta once before, but haven’t seen much.

So basically I purchased this low $159 fare and will be seeing three different cities in less than 48 hours thanks to Delta’s generous Same Day Confirmed policy. I love how Delta is able to confirm me for an earlier or a later flight (if space is available). I will be earning 4,658 Medallion Qualifying Miles at a rate of 3.4 cpm (cents per mile).

Follow me on Twitter and Instagram and join me on this eclectic 48 hour journey through three major cities.
