How To Rebook Your Delta Delayed Flight Using the iPhone App

In May, I wrote about How To Find Alternate Flight Routings Without Speaking To An Agent On Your Delayed Delta Flight.

Today, my morning flight from CLE-ATL was delayed. I needed to make my connection from ATL-LAX, but in my mind, I wanted to call Delta to Same Day Confirm for a later flight so I could spend some time in the city. See my Trip Report: 48 Hour Mileage Run Vacation to Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Atlanta.

When my flight from CLE touched down in ATL, I began to call the Delta Gold Medallion desk for help to Same Day Confirm me for a later flight at 2:59pm to Los Angeles. The agent told me, well sir, we can’t do anything for you since you haven’t taxi’d to the gate and everyone hasn’t deplaned yet. I said okay, I’ll call later.

I pulled up my Delta app and lo and behold, it said that my flight was delayed, Tap here for alternate routings.

I selected from a list of options given. (You can also search for your own creative routings under Search!)

I selected the 2:59pm departure and I was well on my way to a nearby Kiosk to re-print my boarding pass. That was simple and I rebooked the flight myself on the Delta app all while the plane was taxiing.

I just want to stress how important this feature is when your Delta flight is delayed and you don’t have time to speak to an agent. Delta makes this process very simple with their simple app and they WANT you to do this. Due to this being an IRROP situation, it is possible to see First Class and Business Class options available.

  1. I had the exact same thing happen to me earlier this year and I have to say the Delta App was a lifesaver. Rather than waiting on hold with Delta during a weather delay when everyone is calling at the same time, I popped open the app and was rerouted in no time. Great win-win scenario created by Delta.

This doesn’t work as well when you are flying into or out of a small airport where there are very limited, if any, flights available. At least that was my experience.
