Would You Leave Your Wallet at Home and Solely Use Mobile Payments?

I ran across an interesting article from CNET about PayPal testing mobile payments using your face for verification. Apparently a new trial in the U.K is letting people pay for items using the PayPal mobile app and an in-app photo to prove their identity. Here’s a video on how it works:

I’m not sure if I’m ready to leave my wallet at home, but this is definitely an interesting feature. When I travel, I like to have a light wallet and the video makes it seem so easy. In reality, there is no way Americans will be able to leave their wallets and purses at home when shopping and eating out.

So this begs the question, would you leave your wallet at home and use mobile payments exclusively?

  1. Definitely not. Some places you are hard pressed to find a store willing to accept credit cards–forget mobile payments. That’s a while away.
