I absolutely love using Uber whenever possible. Why is it the best ridesharing service on Earth? Well, Uber gave me $20 worth of free ride credit just to sign up which was pretty generous of them. I first used them in New York City two years ago when I saw that I had $20 worth of credit on the Uber app. I took a black car and rode it from Canal St to my hotel in midtown Manhattan. At first, I was amazed to see all the little black cars on my iPhone screen move. Then, I saw the Uber pop up with a picture of an Arab man in a turbine. I was like, this is a wicked cool app! I saw the moving black car going towards my GPS location and it was the same guy as pictured on my screen. I got my $20 credits worth and had a little bit left over, where I never used the app again until recently.
Well, why didn’t I continue using Uber until this year? It’s pretty expensive and I’m more of a subway and bus kind of guy. Yes, call me cheap all you want. I’m trying to avoid taxis at all this year if at all possible. Yes, I only used Uber because of the initial $20 sign up credit.
I was at a bar in San Diego two weeks ago and my friend and I were talking about Uber and ridesharing services. I asked her if she had signed up for the program and she said no. I told her, “OMG, you should totally sign up for it”. In my mind, I was like yes, I am going to get that $20 referral credit when she signs up and use it. After a long night of debauchery, we were totally inebriated and I told her to use the Uber app to take us back to the hotel which was less than a mile away. It only took me 15 minutes to walk to the bar from the Four Points by Sheraton Downtown San Diego.
From what I can recall on that short trip was the driver handing me a bottle of water. I was like, “This is freakin’ amazing!” Free bottled water after a night of boozing.
