Rio de Janeiro Airport American Airlines Admirals Club

Last year I reviewed the American Airlines Admirals Club at Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG Airport). It was one of the saddest lounges I had ever been to because the food spread was atrocious. A lot can happen in one year, so I wanted to see if anything was different this time around.

The Admirals Club at Rio de Janeiro’s Galeao International Airport can be accessed after security, but you’ll need to take an escalator ride down.

The Admirals Club is actually housed in the Smiles GOL VIP Lounge shared facility where you’ll need to swing a left to access the lounge. The right side entrance is for the Smiles VIP Lounge which has the same catering in the Admirals Club.

I was able to access the Admirals Club lounge due to being a oneworld emerald elite flying on American Airlines.

The lounge was relatively empty during the evening with plenty of seating available.

The buffet spread was small and consisted of salad, savory snacks, and soup.

Drinks were available near the buffet spread and at the bar area.

I had the salad with Italian dressing which was really good.

The savory snacks were not that great and the soup was tomato (not pictured).

The lounge was practically the same as my previous visit but with the exception of the added salad which is an actual upgrade. I wish the food was much better, but this is typical of the contracted GOL Smiles VIP lounge catering.
