The Sights and Sounds of Ximending in Taipei

I stayed at the Taipei Garden Hotel which was within a short walking distance to the Ximending MRT Station. The Ximending or Ximen neighborhood of Taipei is also famously known as the Harajuku and Shibuya of Taiwan due to many Japanese influences.

Ximending is very popular neighborhood for the young crowd and it’s often gets crowded during the weeknight and weekends. My first visit to Ximending was not crowded due to being it a week day and it was raining in Taipei.

One of the most famous monuments in the Ximending neighborhood is the Ximen Red House.

Ximending is also known to be the gay friendly neighborhood of Taipei.

If you like shopping, you can practically spend all day in Ximending as there are a plethora of shops and plazas.

Shops and restaurants are also nestled between the sidewalk storefronts of Ximending.

I went to one particular open air temple in Ximending which had a memorial and a beautiful fountain display.

Ximending really comes to life at night as this is one of the hottest hangout spots in Taipei for shopping and dining.

  1. shinjuku, shibuya… rather japanezee.
    hows the stinky tofu?

  2. You really need a better camera or smartphone.

    • sorry, those weren’t the best pictures as lighting is a big factor in taking great pictures on a smartphone. Taipei was pretty much raining throughout my trip with dark gloomy clouds and well, night pictures are night pics.

  3. The thing I hate most about Taipei is that the scooters are everywhere… including in pedestrian night markets and similar zones. I don’t mind the bicycles so much (however few they are, although more downtown now with uBike bike sharing) but the dull roar of two cycle scooter engines at all hours is one thing that bugs me. Not as much as the constant horn use in China but that’s another discussion.
