Scam City: Macau Edition

Even though I spent less than 12 hours in Macau, my first impressions were disappointing. Earlier this year, I wrote about 10 Things I Learned From My Recent Trip to Macau and the highlight of the article was about the massive prostitution scene at night.

Cotai Strip in Macau is nothing like the Las Vegas Strip except that some of the buildings are very similar such in a way that the Conrad resembles the Bellagio and the Sands hotel resembles the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas.

The Crown and Hard Rock hotel in Macau awfully looks strikingly similar to the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.

Furthermore, the Venetian in Macau is pretty much an exact replica of the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas.

Prostitution was very evident in front of the Venetian hotel. You can see the crowds of women gathered together in groups and some of them work independently. You might as well call this the Red Light District of Macau.

As you can see, an independent prostitute is trying to hawk her wares with a solo male tourist.

I saw two young female prostitutes try to lure a gentleman for sexual services. The two women were not working together and they were trying to ‘win him over’ because it was slim pickings during the slow rainy night.

I was approached by several prostitutes and one of them gave me their number even though I was not interested.

I would definitely avoid all advances by these women as these are clearly scams. You don’t want to be drugged when you reach your hotel room and find out that all your belongings are gone when you wake up in the morning. When the girl insists on bringing you to her room, who knows if there will be someone else in the room? Avoid these scammers at all costs.
