The Sights and Sounds of Liberdade in Sao Paulo

Two years ago, I briefly wrote about the neighborhood of Liberdade in The Sights and Sounds of Downtown Sao Paulo, Brazil. Liberdade is basically the Japantown of Sao Paulo where you can find unique Japanese markets, bookstores, and restaurants.

According to Wikipedia, the Liberdade neighborhood is “home to the largest community outside of Japan in the world and has been growing since the 1950s.”

In Liberdade, you can find bookstores such as the Sol Livraria, produce markets, and clothing shops.

One of the stores in Liberdade was full of FIFA World Cup gear with Brazil’s national team colors yellow and green.

There’s also a Jardim Oriental – Liberdade Sao Paulo which is a public park in Liberdade.

I’ve always wanted to eat some delicious food in Liberdade, so I stopped for lunch at Itiriki Cozinha Oriental which was a kilo restaurant where you pay by the weight.

I had some amazing sushi (13.35 reais ~ $5.09 USD) and a Guarana drink (3.90 reais ~ $1.49 USD) for a grand total of R$17.25 ~ $6.58 USD.
