The Sights and Sounds of Rua 25 de Marco in Sao Paulo

Rua 25 de Marco (25 March Street) is a popular shopping street for Paulistas (Sao Paulo locals). There aren’t any name brand stores here, but you’ll find all sorts of low quality and counterfeit merchandise such as toys, jewelry, clothing, shoes, and electronics.

I wanted to find an inexpensive World Cup jersey and some souvenirs, so I headed to Rua Marco de 25 and took the Sao Paulo subway where I got off at Sao Bento metro station. Almost immediately, I could see the crowds.

Rua 25 de Marco on World Cup opening match day was quite chaotic with a sea of people roaming the streets:

There were tons of storefront shops selling mostly World Cup merchandise.

The street scene was lively as well with sidewalk vendors hawking their wares.

  1. Rua 25 de Marco (25 March Street) is a popular shopping street for Paulistas (Sao Paulo locals).

Technically, people who live in the city of SP are known as “Paulistanos” or “Paulistanas” (by gender), while people and things in the rest of the state of SP, outside the capital city, are “Paulistas.” And there’s your monthly “cripes this guy is a pedant and an a–hole” note.

I predict the next entry has a sandwich, no?
