I just recently became an Orbitz Rewards Gold member due to the recent $100 off $100 VISA Checkout promotion back in November of 2014. There’s not much info on the internet about the Orbitz Rewards Program, so I thought I’d share some insight on how their loyalty program works. Here’s an overview of the Orbitz Rewards Program.
There are three tiers to the Orbitz Rewards Program: Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
Everyone who signs up for the Orbitz Rewards Program automatically receives Silver member status.
To become a Gold member, you must book and stay at least 4 room nights in 12 months.
To become a Platinum member, you must book and stay at least 12 room nights in 12 months.
When you qualify for Gold or Platinum status, you actually keep that status within the next 12 months from the day you qualify which is quite different from other loyalty programs which reset every calendar year in the month of January.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the perks you get as a Silver, Gold, and Platinum member:
Silver member benefits: Immediately earn up to 5% in Orbucks (5% with mobile app, 3% everywhere else, 1% on flights, cruses, and vacation packages), Redeem instantly on eligible hotels and stack your rewards with other deals, Refer a Friend – you both get $25, Extra Savings – on top of offers and promotions, Dedicated 1-800 Orbitz Rewards line, Travel alerts for your trip, Best Price Guarantee (up to +100 in Orbucks).
Gold member benefits: All Silver member benefits including Best Rate Guarantee (up to +$150 in Orbucks), Customer Service Priority Access, and Orbitz Rewards Hotel Benefits – which may include upgrades, free Wi-Fi, breakfast, etc.
Platinum member benefits: All Silver and Gold member benefits including Best Rate Guarantee (up to +$200 in Orbucks) and Check two bags and we’ll get you back in Orbucks.
Bottom line
Gain instant Silver status when you sign up for the Orbitz Rewards Program (no brainer). The best part about being a Silver member is having access to the Best Price Guarantee program which gives you up to $100 in Orbucks instead of $50 as a non-member .
Gold members receive complimentary room upgrades, free Wi-Fi, and breakfast when booking selected hotels from the Orbitz Rewards Hotels page. In addition, Orbitz will give you up to $150 in Orbucks with their Best Rate Guarantee program.
Platinum members get free room upgrades, free Wi-Fi, and breakfast as well, but there isn’t a differentiation that Platinum status will get you better upgrades than a Gold member. Orbitz will give you up to $200 in Orbucks with their Best Rate Guarantee program which is quite generous. You also get your checked bags reimbursed in the form of Orbucks which isn’t too bad (ahem, Spirit).
