The Sights and Sounds of Old Town Curitiba in Brazil

One of my favorite places during my visit to Curitiba was a stroll through Old Town Curitiba which is also known as Largo da Ordem. This historic part of Curitiba has colorful buildings in addition to museums, art galleries, restaurants, and churches. Every Sunday there’s a street fair called Feira do Largo da Ordem with live music, performances, street vendors, and food.

The best way to get to Old Town Curitiba is by bus located at Praca Tiradentes. You can also walk to Praca Tiradentes if you’re already located in Downtown Curitiba.

At Praca Tiradentes, you can also find a tourism bus which is like a hop on and hop off bus. I don’t recommend Hop on and Hop off buses because they tend to be a ripoff and it’s better to walk everywhere or take local buses.

In front of Tiradentes Square, you can find the Catedral de Curitiba which is a church also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Tiradentes Square is a popular hangout spot for locals and also serves as a meeting point for locals and tourists alike. You can find a lot of street snack spots around the Curitiba Metropolitan Church.

I had a pastel de carne for 1 Brazilian real ~ $0.35 USD which was ridiculously inexpensive for a snack.

From Praca Tiradentes, it was an easy walk to Old Town Curitiba which you can tell by the colorful buildings and distinctive murals.

Old Town Curitiba or as locals say, Largo da Ordem , is a pedestrian only area with cobblestone streets. It has a very European feel and for a second, I didn’t think I was in Brazil anymore.

I absolutely love the colorful and historic buildings in Largo da Ordem.

There are a lot of cafes, restaurants, and bars in Old Town Curitiba.

There were also a few churches in old town, most notably the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil (Igreja Presbiteriana Independente do Brasil) and the Church of the Third Order of St. Francis of Chagas (Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco das Chagas).

There’s also a Museum of Sacred Art of Curitiba Archdiocese (Museu de Arte Sacra da Arquidiocese de Curitiba) that looks like a church.

In addition, there is an art gallery called Studio R Krieger Galeria de Arte.

In the center of Old Town Curitiba is the Curitiba Memorial building which is used for art installations and folklore.
