New American Airlines Marketplace Menu in the Economy Class Main Cabin

Yesterday, I flew on a same day pure mileage run from Los Angeles to Washington Dulles International Airport and back to LAX Intl Airport (LAX-IAD-LAX). On my first LAX-IAD leg, I was incredibly lucky and scored an upgrade to First Class due to a no show. As I settled into my coach seat, the gate agent came onboard and pulled me up to the front.

I had a 30 minute layover in Dulles Airport before boarding the last and final IAD-LAX leg. I was number 1 on the upgrade list, but First Class was completely sold out. This was my first missed upgrade of the year and I settled into my exit row window seat. As an American Airlines Executive Platinum member, I am entitled to a complimentary snack and beverage while sitting in the main cabin. Last year I wrote about My Economy Class Experience as an American Airlines Executive Platinum and How I Ended Up in the Last Row of Economy Class as an Executive Platinum.

I haven’t sat in coach in a long time and didn’t realize there were new items on the March 2015 Marketplace Menu. Here’s the New American Airlines Marketplace Menu in the Economy Class Main Cabin. The menu read as follows:

Wine, Beer, and Spirits

Wine 187ml – $7.00 – Please ask your flight attendant for today’s wine selection

Premium Wine 375ml – $15.99 – Hand selected by our wine consultant, Ken Chase. offered on Transcontinental, Hawaii, and select domestic flights over 3 hours.

St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc, Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, Cline Zinfandel, Parducci Merlot

Beer 12fl oz – $7.00 – Budweiser, Bud Light, Dos Equis, Heineken, Sam Adams

Spirits 50ml – $7.00 – BACARDI Rum, Baileys Irish Cream, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Canadian Club, Dewar’s White Label, Disaronno Amaretto, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Tito’s Handmade Vodka

Complimentary Beverages – Products may vary and may not be available on all flights.

Soft Drinks – Coca-Cola Classic, Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Zero, Dr. Pepper, Diet Dr. Pepper, Sierra Mist Natural, Diet Sierra Mist, Canada Dry Club Soda, Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Canada Dry Tonic Water

Coffee, Tea, Juice & Water – FreshBrew Coffeehouse Roast, FreshBrew Decaffeinated Coffeehouse Roast, Bigelow Tea, Milk, Bottled Water, Mott’s Tomato Juice, Mr. & Mrs T. Bloody Mary Mix, Minute Maid Apple Juice, Minute Maid Cranberry Apple, Minute Maid Orange Juice

I ordered my favorite drink, Cranberry Vodka with Lime. If a flight attendant responds with, “Is Cranapple okay?” that means she’s going to be taking care of you throughout the flight. I find that seasoned flight attendants who care about correcting you will sometimes offer you two bottles of Tito’s Handmade Vodka and check up on you throughout the flight offering you 2nds and 3rds. Some flight attendants will even offer you more than 1 snack and some will give you unlimited snacks without charge.

I also had the new Chicken Cobb Salad which was quite humungous in size. It came with three slices of chicken breast with a helping of lettuce, bacon, corn, tomatoes, and bleu cheese.

The Chicken Cobb Salad was outstanding and it beats most of the meals offered in First Class. I’m sad that American Airlines no longer offers Garrett’s popcorn as a buy on board item, but all good things come to an end. Sitting in coach isn’t too bad when you’re in an exit row aisle or window with the middle seat empty. It’s even better with free food and drink as an Executive Platinum elite on a plane with Gogo Wi-Fi Internet service. All of these elements make coach more enjoyable for an EXP member whether they redeemed miles for coach or just missed an upgrade to Business or First Class.

Have you tried out the new American Airlines Main Cabin menu items?

  1. They updated the menu but mostly the same as last year. Flew quite a bit of coach last year and a bit this year. No more pastrami sandwich =(

  2. This is great news for me! I am planning a trip to Costa Rica soon and will be flying via American Airlines using my gift card. I am a new member of their miles club is it hard to get an upgrade from coach?
