Trip Report: My South America Mileage Run Vacation to Puerto Iguazu Argentina

I will be embarking on a four day trip tomorrow to Puerto Iguazu, Foz do Iguacu, Sao Paulo, and Santiago. Last time around, I saw the Brazilian side of the waterfalls. This time, I’ll be flying into Foz do Iguazu International Airport (IGU) and taking a taxi straight to Puerto Iguazu, Argentina where I’ll be checking out the Argentine side of the falls. I’ll be spending one night in Puerto Iguazu and another night in the city of Foz do Iguacu. Then I will fly to Sao Paulo where I’ll be spending 23 hours in the city and then a 12 hour layover in Santiago, Chile.

Introduction to Puerto Iguazu

I will be flying on LAN Airlines and TAM Airlines through South America and my total cost of the ticket was $440.46 which I bought last year during Thanksgiving thanks to the guys over at The Flight Deal. I actually bought 3 of these tickets which I flew one last time and this will be my second run.

My routing looks something like this: LAX-LIM-IGU-GRU-SCL-LAX.

I’ll be crediting my miles towards American Airlines and with the reduced LATAM intra-South American mileage earnings, I’ll be earning a total of 11,248 miles at a rate of 3.9 cpm.

It’s going to be a fast paced whirlwind of a trip where I’ll be visiting four different cities in four different countries in a short amount of time. These are the trips I live for and as always, I will be sharing my adventure with you guys on my social media channels.

  1. I found the Argentine side to be a huge letdown relative to the Brazilian side. Maybe the Sheraton makes it worth it?

At one point I asked one of the people in town if there was a good place to get dinner and he laughed: “Go back to Buenos Aires.”

  2. I really enjoy your trip reports!!! especially the airline reviews!!
