Gary Leff at View from the Wing wrote a post yesterday stating that Meals Will Disappear from American First Class on Many Flights Starting September 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gary points out that \u2013<\/p>\n

Effective April 1 they changed the cutoff for meals from flights of 3.5 hours or longer to those of 1000 nautical miles or greater which they said equated to flights of ~ 2 hours 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

That meant about 40% more US Airways flights would be seeing meals in domestic first class \u2014 or an increase of 126 flights a day.<\/p>\n

Thus, snack baskets will be a common sight on American Airlines and US Airways. If you\u2019re a frequent flier like me, I absolutely dislike flights that only serve a snack basket. I\u2019d rather have a cold or hot fulfilling meal on a plane. Gary also wrote a post on Why US Airways elites are hungry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here is the current snack basket situation on US Airways:<\/strong><\/p>\n

US Airways offers Sea Salt Kettle Chips, Snyder\u2019s Mini Pretzels, cookies, and nuts.\u00a0I don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019ll need to eat three items just to fill me up.<\/p>\n

You can actually ask for the buy on board items from the coach cabin. In this case I asked the flight attendant for cranberry nut mix and she was delighted to fetch it for me.<\/p>\n

Here is the current snack basket situation on American Airlines:<\/strong><\/p>\n

American Airlines offers Garrett\u2019s Popcorn, key lime cookies, granola bars, and whole fruit.<\/p>\n

While I’m sad to see a majority of short-haul meals go away, I’ll have to learn to love the snack basket.<\/p>\n
