I\u2019ve been to many different Chinatowns around the world such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas<\/a>, New York<\/a>, Lima<\/a>, Buenos Aires<\/a>, and Sao Paulo<\/a>. Each Chinatown is unique in its own, but the one in Singapore really stands out from the rest. It even has its own night market in addition to several hawker food centers.<\/p>\n

At first, the Chinatown in Singapore doesn\u2019t even look like a typical Chinatown. It looks more like baroque architecture with Victorian window shutters.<\/p>\n

Once you get into the heart of Chinatown, you\u2019ll begin noticing several Chinese temples and places of worship.<\/p>\n

You can find many senior citizens relaxing with friends and having a good time playing mahjong.<\/p>\n

I was in Singapore shortly after Chinese New Year and the decorations were still up. As you can see, 2014 is the Year of the Horse.<\/p>\n

I wandered through the streets of Chinatown and found the Chinatown Night Market. It wasn\u2019t that lively during the day as there were not many merchants open. This is definitely the place to be during the night when all the vendors come out.<\/p>\n

If you can\u2019t wait for food during the Chinatown Night Market, you can head to several hawker centers such as Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown Complex, and Hong Lim Market & Food Center. You can\u2019t go wrong with either one and I will have a future detailed post on all the hawker food centers and their local specialties.<\/p>\n
