One of my favorite things to do when traveling is eat local cuisine and Chile did not disappoint. Previously, I\u2019ve written about The Various Eats in Santiago Chile Part 1<\/a> and The Various Eats in Santiago Chile Part 2<\/a>. I continue my journey of eating my way through Santiago during my short layover in Chile. This time, I focused on what was being offered in the western part of the capital city of Chile.<\/p>\n

One of the most economical ways to eat in Santiago is to dine at hole in the wall restaurants where a lick of English is not spoken at all. Near the Parajitos metro station, I found an In and Out (not the American chain restaurant!) which serves fries, sandwiches, chicken, and sopapillas.<\/p>\n

Street food is quintessential to everyday Chileans where you can have sopapillas, empanadas queso (cheese), empanadas pina (pineapple), and empanadas napolitana (neopolitan). There was also pollo mandarin, chaparrita, champinon queso (mushroom and cheese), primavera, camaron queso (shrimp and cheese), and jamon queso (ham and cheese) empanadas.<\/p>\n

I had a basic cheese empanada for 500 Chilean pesos ~ $0.84 USD which was delicious.<\/p>\n

I was thirsty, so I picked up fresh jugos naturales (natural juice) for 500 Chilean pesos ~ $0.84 USD.<\/p>\n

There was also Argentina food such as Restaurant Parrilladas if you need your parilla fix.<\/p>\n

The empanada de queso that I had earlier was an appetizer and I was hungry. I was in the mood for Churrasco a lo pobre which translates into poor man\u2019s steak.<\/p>\n

The beef was delicious and it was served with fries and topped with two fried eggs.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, I found a dessert shop called Grido Helado which serves ice cream.<\/p>\n

I had a dulce de leche ice cream on a waffle cone.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t have much time during my short layover to consume more food, but I did see another snack cart. The snack cart was selling all natural honey roasted nuts (mani in Spanish)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had them before and they\u2019re a Chilean staple in Santiago, but I resisted the urge this time since I was so full.<\/p>\n
