This is Part 2 of the InterContinental Real San Pedro Sula Hotel Review which will cover the food aspects. As part of being on the InterContinental Ambassador Club Floor, I was granted access to complimentary evening appetizers in the lobby restaurant and breakfast in the Club Lounge.<\/p>\n

After settling into my room, I headed down to the NAU Lounge which is the hotel\u2019s Japanese restaurant. It was an early dinner and I ordered a sushi roll which was nothing to write home about.<\/p>\n

I stayed at this hotel on March 30th where it was the last week of the March Madness basketball tournament. There were a lot of Americans at NAU Lounge watching the Final Four college basketball game and I was sitting at the bar area where I noticed a strange sign.<\/p>\n

\"ICsanpedrosula32\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The sign read:<\/p>\n

\u201cDear Guest,<\/p>\n

Due to the law #425-2014, which establishes the prohibition of sale, distribution, and consumption of alcoholic beverages from Sunday 5pm until Monday 6:00am. The hotel cannot sell any alcoholic beverages in the bar nor restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n

I looked at my watch and it was well after 5pm on a Sunday and I saw the frustration on the sports fans faces. There were a group of American businessman watching the Final Four game and they were heckling the bartender for a drink, but the bartender pointed them to the posted sign which barred the hotel from selling alcohol.<\/p>\n

I asked the bartender, \u201cWhy is this rule in place?\u201d and he said that it was a new \u201cDry Law\u201d in effect<\/a> which started earlier this month (back in March). Apparently it was instituted by the government of Honduras to reduce crime in one of the most dangerous countries in the world.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, I went to the hotel\u2019s main lobby restaurant to partake in complimentary evening appetizers. The waiter advised me that I could only choose from the selection of salad bar items (hot items excluded).<\/p>\n

I was also able to partake in the dessert buffet spread.<\/p>\n

I had a little bit of everything and it was delicious.<\/p>\n

I had breakfast the next morning in the InterContinental Ambassador Club Lounge.<\/p>\n

The hot selection breakfast spread consisted of eggs, beans, hash browns, and bacon.<\/p>\n

There was also various cold deli meats, cheeses, bread, muffins, pastries, and fresh fruit (including whole fruit).<\/p>\n

I had a little bit of everything from the hot selection and it was delicious.<\/p>\n

When I was ready to check-out, I was informed that I was charged $99 for the Junior Suite upgrade. I told the front desk agent that I was never informed verbally or shown an upsell at check-in. I knew that something was fishy all along since I received the free upgrade. She showed me a paper that I signed indicating that I would be charged $99 for the upsell which I never saw in the first place. I thought I had signed a document indicating that my information was correct and my credit card listed for incidentals. I noticed there was writing and some sort of stamp afterwards upon check-out which must have been placed after I had signed the document.<\/p>\n

Since this was a chain hotel, I lodged my complaint with IHG afterwards to get an explanation of the bait and switch tactic. In the end, I ended up paying for the $99 charge since I negotiated that my 3rd party stay be changed into a revenue stay where I earned points for my stay.<\/p>\n

Despite the billing mishap, I truly enjoyed my stay at the InterContinental Real San Pedro Sula hotel. I realized that $99 is a heck of a deal for a Junior Suite upgrade, evening appetizers, and free breakfast to boot. I would definitely stay here again since it\u2019s the most luxurious hotel in the city and it\u2019s conveniently located right next to the MultiPlaza Mall.<\/p>\n
