I decided to stay at the Sheraton Barra Rio de Janeiro Hotel because it\u2019s one side of Rio that I\u2019ve never been to which located in the Barra de Tijuca neighborhood. Note that the Sheraton Barra hotel has since left the Starwood portfolio and has been renamed the Radisson Barra Rio de Janeiro hotel. I\u2019ve decided to review this property because of trip report continuity. I booked the hotel on a cash and points rate for 6,000 Starpoints + $110 USD. Part 1 of this review will focus on the room aspect and Part 2 will focus on the Sheraton Club Lounge and restaurant breakfast.<\/p>\n

There are a few ways to get to the Sheraton Barra from Rio de Janeiro International airport. The easiest way is to take a taxi which will cost you an arm and a leg, but the fastest way is to take the air conditioned Real Executive Onibus to Barra de Tijuca for around 12 reais ~ $5.06 USD. The bus drops you off next to a mall called Shopping Barra where you can take a taxi to the Radisson Barra hotel (formerly Sheraton Barra hotel).<\/p>\n

I got to the hotel at around noon and the front desk agent advised me that I had been upgraded to a suite. I knew this beforehand because I checked the SPG app before arriving which is always a great surprise. He also informed me that the Sheraton Club Lounge was available for evening appetizers and breakfast. In addition, he said that I could have breakfast in the lobby restaurant instead of the Club Lounge or both.<\/p>\n

The agent also presented a laminated paper and asked me to pick my Platinum amenity. The choices were 500 Starpoints, a cap, a blouse (or polo), a caipirinha kit, a bottle of domestic wine, a cheese plate, or a chocolate surprise. I was surprised at the choice of local gifts, so I went with the caipirinha kit which was pretty awesome and gladly worth more than 500 Starpoints.<\/p>\n

He also presented me with a card for complimentary pressing service and a voucher for a caipirinha as a welcome drink.<\/p>\n

The suite was spacious and the living room consisted of an L-shaped executive desk, TV, coffee maker, and microwave.<\/p>\n

The King size bed was located in the master bedroom along with access to the bathroom which was small, but ergonomic.<\/p>\n

The best part about the one bedroom suite was the amazing access to the ocean view balcony from the living room.<\/p>\n
