I ended up at Calle Palma because I really wanted to get a prepaid SIM Card for my iPhone in Paraguay. Thankfully, I was able to get a SIM Card with data from the Tigo cell phone store in downtown Asuncion on Calle Palma.<\/p>\n

Right across the street from the Tigo store was the famous Monumento a los Heroes in Plaza de los Heroes.<\/p>\n

Walking on Calle Palma is like walking through an open air swap meet with street vendors hawking their wares.<\/p>\n

These handmade items are aimed at tourists, but they\u2019re a dime a dozen in Asuncion.<\/p>\n

Locals are mostly interested in clothing and most of it is counterfeit if it has a designer logo.<\/p>\n

Paraguayans are really into their terere and there are vendors selling thermoses to keep their water hot or cold. There are some interesting designs such as the one with Hello Kitty and SpongeBob SquarePants.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not into street goods, you can find many Centro Comerciales (shopping malls), retail stores, and Gallerias on Calle Palma.<\/p>\n

Street vendors can also be found on Calle Palma where you can find mostly drinks and desserts sold from carts.<\/p>\n

I re-visited Calle Palma during the night and saw the Monumento a los Heroes lit up in purple.<\/p>\n

You can also find many restaurants on Calle Palma and the most famous one is the Lido Bar serving authentic Paraguayan cuisine.<\/p>\n
