Since I was staying in Hong Kong, I wanted to check out the much talked about W Hong Kong Hotel in the Kowloon city district. I love staying at the W Hotels Starwood brand whenever I travel internationally because the level of service is always above and beyond the U.S. counterparts. I booked a free award night redemption at the W Hong Kong hotel using 20,000 Starpoints because the hotel was going for over $500 USD + tax. I also used a Suite Night Award (SNA) for a Fantastic Suite which cleared 5 days prior to arrival. My Turbojet ferry from Macau to Kowloon (MAC-KLN) arrived at the China Ferry Terminal where I took a taxi for 77 HKD ~ $10 USD to the W Hong Kong which was a ten minute cab ride.<\/p>\n

Once entering the W Hong Kong hotel, you have to take an elevator up to the lobby reception area. This is also known as the \u2018Living Room\u2019.<\/p>\n

I noticed that the Living Room had a designated seating area for Starwood Preferred Guest Gold and Platinum members which reminded me of segregation. I\u2019m not sure how the staff would enforce this preferred seating area since I never carry my physical SPG Platinum membership card.<\/p>\n

At check-in, the front desk agent recognized me as a Platinum guest and I chose breakfast a Platinum amenity. He notified me that I had been upgraded to a Fantastic Suite (I used a SNA) and handed me a voucher for a complimentary drink at the Woobar.<\/p>\n
