I just got back yesterday from an 11 day whirlwind of a trip<\/a> through Mexico City, Quito (Ecuador), Guayaquil (Ecuador), and Havana (Cuba). At the beginning of my trip, I had a 12 hour layover in Mexico City and I’ve written full trip reports here<\/a> and here<\/a>. Mexico City is easily one of my favorite destinations in the entire world<\/a>, but there’s always something new to be learned every time. Here are 5 Things I Learned From My Recent 12 Hour Layover in Mexico City:<\/p>\n

1. The Mexico City metro continues to be a bargain from the airport –<\/strong> It never ceases to amaze me that you can get from Terminal 1 of Mexico City International Airport (MEX) to Mexico City’s City Center (Historico Centro) for only 5 Mexican pesos ~ ($0.32 USD). It’s really a no brainer while comparing this to New York’s subway system which costs a whopping $2.75.<\/p>\n

2. There’s a new James bond movie currently being filmed in Mexico City –<\/strong> When I got off the Mexico City metro at the Zocalo station (Constitution Square), it was completely fenced off. The Zocalo was basically cornered off in a square because of the new James Bond movie. There was Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) decorations and even a helicopter flying in and out of the Zocalo flag area.<\/p>\n

3. Churro ice cream sandwich is simply amazing –<\/strong> My friend from Mexico City took me to a place called El Moro which is famous for their churros. I love eating and dessert is one of my favorite things, but this churro chocolate ice cream sandwich simply blew me away.<\/p>\n

4. The views from Torre Latinoamericana are amazing –<\/strong> Even though I’ve been to Mexico City at least 10 times, I never actually been to the Torre Latinoamericana (Latin American Tower) building which was once the tallest building in Mexico City. The sweeping views of Mexico City from atop are simply breathtaking.<\/p>\n

5. There’s Uber available in Mexico City –<\/strong> I used UberX<\/a> from Mexico City’s Historic Center (Zona Historico Centro) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and the total was only 82.60 MXN ~ $5.43 USD! The entire journey was 6.95 miles and took a little over 18 minutes which was a complete bargain.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s currently a promotion for new Uber users<\/a> where you can get up to $150 MXN off your first ride<\/a>!<\/p>\n
