I was flying on Delta and invoked their<a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/2013\/05\/06\/i-have-a-love-hate-relationship-with-the-same-day-confirmed-policy-on-delta-airlines\/\"> Same Day Confirmed policy<\/a> so I could spend a night in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>While on my flight earlier this morning, I planned to explore Detroit and visit Windsor, ON in Canada which is only 5 minutes away from downtown Detroit. I was stoked since I have never stepped foot outside DTW airport and have never been to Canada. There\u2019s always a first time for everything.<\/p>\n<p>I <a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/2013\/05\/04\/how-to-use-american-airlines-aadvantage-miles-and-elite-status-for-cheap-car-rentals\/\">rented a car for 2,600 AA miles<\/a> on Dollar and drove downtown to have lunch at Redsmoke BBQ in Greektown.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada6.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2492\" alt=\"canada6\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada6.jpeg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada6.jpeg 480w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada6-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada1.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2487\" alt=\"canada1\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada1.jpeg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada1.jpeg 480w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada1-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nothing was happening in Greektown on a Monday afternoon, so I headed towards the Canadian Border to visit Caesar\u2019s Casino in Windsor, Ontario.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada2.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2488\" alt=\"canada2\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada2.jpeg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada2.jpeg 480w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada2-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I took the Detroit-Windsor tunnel and paid the $4.50 toll which can be paid by credit card. After a few minutes, I was on Canadian soil. The border wait\u00a0wasn&#8217;t\u00a0too bad and it almost felt like lining up for gas at Costco.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada4.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2490\" alt=\"canada4\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada4.jpeg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada4.jpeg 480w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada4-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada3.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2489\" alt=\"canada3\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada3.jpeg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada3.jpeg 480w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada3-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I rolled up with my rental car to the Canadian customs booth and handed over my US Passport Card. The agent straight off bat told me \u201cYou just violated a stop sign. You can\u2019t pull up here like a drive through window.\u201d I quickly apologized (I wasn\u2019t fully paying attention, which was my fault)<\/p>\n<p>The agent asked me \u201cWhat was the purpose of the trip?\u201d I responded that I just wanted to visit the Caesar\u2019s Casino in Windsor. Then, she asked me \u201cWhere are you from?\u201d and \u201cWhat are you doing in Detroit?\u201d I told her that I was on a multi-city trip with a stop in Detroit and continuing onto Mexico tomorrow. Apparently, my answer raised concerns and she placed a yellow form on my dashboard. The agent then told me to proceed to secondary screening and wait under the canopy.<\/p>\n<p>With full of anxiety, I parked in the first empty spot and the customs officer read the notes from the previous agent. The officer said that I ran a stop sign and asked me if I was handicap? I said I apologized and didn\u2019t see the stop sign and no, I am not handicapped. Then, he said \u201cWell, you\u2019re parked in a handicap spot\u201d I apologized and said I didn\u2019t see that and he told me, \u201cPlease pull over to the other side so I can deal with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At this point, my anxiety level raised through the roof and I was kind of shaking. I couldn\u2019t believe that I committed two traffic violations within a 10 minute span in Canadian soil. I was worried that I was going to get fined and arrested. The officer told me to shut the ignition, get out of the car, and leave all my personal belongings in the car. He proceeded to ask me questions like \u201cWhat are you doing in Canada, Detroit, and Mexico?\u201d I explained to the officer that I was on a multi-city mileage run on Delta, earning ~8,000 miles on a cheap $189 fare. He then proceeded to fully search my rental car and told me to proceed to Customs and Immigration office.<\/p>\n<p>I went into the office, and another customs officer asked me the same questions. He believed me and told me to have fun at the casino. With a total sigh of relief, I was off scot-free and headed to the Caesar\u2019s Casino in Windsor.<\/p>\n<p>Coming back to the US was a breeze as the US Customs officer asked me &#8220;What were you doing in Canada?&#8221; I just said I was at \u00a0Caesar&#8217;s Casino in Windsor and he waived me through.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada5.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2491\" alt=\"canada5\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/files\/2013\/05\/canada5.jpeg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada5.jpeg 480w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/pointssummary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/\/sites\/12\/2013\/05\/canada5-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I learned a huge lesson today.
