Santiago is foodie heaven for seafood lovers as Chile is located on the coast. Santiago\u2019s famous dish is the Chilean Sea Bass. Of course there are many other local specialties such as mussels, clams, and sea urchin. Santiago, Chile is also famous for empanadas and it\u2019s so different from the empanadas served in the United States.<\/p>\n

On my first day of venturing out in downtown Santiago, I went to the Gran Buffet for lunch. It might sound like a buffet restaurant, but it really wasn\u2019t. Basically, you get bread, soup, entr\u00e9e, two sides, dessert, and a drink for less than $10 USD.<\/p>\n

I chose salmon with rice and potatoes. The salmon was delicious, but the soup and dessert was forgettable.<\/p>\n

Another great choice for lunch is to have a cheese empanada. Beware that the empanadas will fill you up even they look like an appetizer.<\/p>\n

Nut (mani) vendors are in almost every street corner in Santiago, Chile. They are addictive and come in many different flavors. Be sure to try some flavorful nuts.<\/p>\n

Make sure to wash the empanadas and nuts with a cold Mote con Huesillo which is a drink made from wheat and peaches.<\/p>\n

@talljames<\/a> and I went out for dinner at Lomit\u2019s in the Providencia neighborhood. It\u2019s a local family owned restaurant and I always support local businesses whenever I can.<\/p>\n

I started out with a Chilean pisco sour.<\/p>\n

For the main entr\u00e9e, I had steak with caramelized onions topped with two sunny side up eggs and fries. It was delicious.<\/p>\n

I wanted to try out the Chilean sea bass, so we headed out for dinner the second night at Cafe Sur Patagonico in Barrio Lastarria. Surprisingly, not many restaurants in Lastarria offered the national dish.<\/p>\n

I started off with a local Cristal beer on draft.<\/p>\n

As the main entr\u00e9e, I ordered the Chilean sea bass which was delicious.<\/p>\n

On the last night of our stay in Santiago, we dined at an Italian restaurant called Tiramisu in the Las Condes neighborhood.<\/p>\n

I ordered a Caesar salad topped with anchovies as an appetizer. It was quite big and delicious.<\/p>\n
