The Yuyuan Garden or also known as the Yu Garden is a Chinese garden located in the Old City. The Yuyuan garden is surrounded by an enormous open-air bazaar called the Yuyuan Tourist Mart. It\u2019s also home of the famous Nanxiang Steamed Buns Restaurant where I will cover in a later segment. In this bazaar, you can find great gifts and souvenirs at great prices.<\/p>\n

I took the Shanghai metro Line 10 and got off at the Yuyuan Garden station.<\/p>\n

From the metro station, it was a short 10 minute walk through the cold and wet streets of Shanghai to the Yuyuan Tourist Mart.<\/p>\n

The Yuyuan Tourist Mart is lined up with restaurants, street food, and shops. It\u2019s so touristy that it has a Starbucks coffee shop.<\/p>\n

The great thing about the Yu Garden is that locals and tourists love this place. It\u2019s a great place to people watch and relax by watching the fishes swim in the water.<\/p>\n

There are two attractions in the Yuyuan Garden which is the Yu Garden itself and the City of God Temple. Both attractions require a small payment at the ticket window.<\/p>\n

On the other side of the Yu Garden is an outdoor food hall. I will cover this food market in a later post, but I want to give you an overview of what it looks like. Basically, most of the Shanghai specialties are located here, including stinky tofu.<\/p>\n

The real shopping gem is not inside the Yuyuan bazaar, but outside in the surrounding streets where you can find a shop that sells everything for 2 Yuan each. That comes out to be ~ 33 cents USD for each item in the store.<\/p>\n

There are also adjacent alleys where you can find items for sale on the black market. The items are lined up outside on the floor and haggling is expected.<\/p>\n
