I\u2019m tired of hearing from online forums and guide books that Pudong is not a great place to be. I actually had a better time in the Pudong neighborhood than staying in the city-center. I got a taste of Pudong by staying at the Hongta hotel<\/a> and the Four Points by Sheraton<\/a>. First of all, hotels are much more inexpensive and you get a sense of the real life and struggles of the everyday Shanghai local. Basically, your dollar will go much further in Pudong.<\/p>\n

I started out by getting off at the Lujiazui metro station. Lujiazui is basically a financial district in Pudong which is lined up with high rise office towers.<\/p>\n

Lujiazui is also home of many landmark building such as the famous Oriental Pearl Tower.<\/p>\n

Nearby is the International Finance Centre (IFC) Mall where you can find many luxury shopping brands such as Louis Vuitton and Prada. There is even an Apple Store.<\/p>\n

If the IFC Mall is too high end, head over to Shangchen Road metro station to the Times Square area.<\/p>\n

In the Times Square area, you can find large shopping center malls to fulfill your shopping needs. You can find pretty much everything ranging from groceries to electronics and clothing.<\/p>\n

The hustle and bustle of Pudong is very active. Many locals take the metro or the bus as forms of everyday transportation.<\/p>\n

The one thing I noticed about Pudong is the overhead electronic sign that provides traffic congestion details. Red means traffic and green means no traffic.<\/p>\n

There is definitely a dark side to Pudong and that is the abundance of Asian Massage Parlors. They can be found in almost every block and there is no shortage of massage parlors in Pudong.<\/p>\n

Many of the residents of Pudong are poor and live in small apartments. Laundry is hung outside on extended metal poles to save money.<\/p>\n

In some alleyways, live birds and animals are sold by the pound.<\/p>\n

By the Tangqiao metro station, you can find many street vendors selling their wares.<\/p>\n

You can also find more vendors located on the elevated bridges.<\/p>\n

There is no shortage of illegal wares such as pirated DVDs.<\/p>\n

Phone cards and cigarettes can also be found throughout the streets of Pudong. I would be wary of buying fake cigarettes.<\/p>\n
