Last month, I wrote about some thoughts about my recent flight to HEL which included the loss of my bulkhead aisle seat. There will be some overlap from my previous post. The flight from JFK-HEL (New York to Helsinki, Finland) departed from American Airlines Terminal 8.<\/p>\n

Many oneworld flights depart from American Airlines Terminal 8 in the international side which are pretty much gates 1-10. Since there\u2019s only one JFK-HEL flight daily, it departs from the same gate. The gate is recognizable if you see the Helsinki version of the Big Apple. I thought it was awesome to include New York\u2019s Big Apple to blend in with Finland.<\/p>\n

Boarding was smooth and I got to board when they called oneworld emeralds (Executive Platinum equivalent). The economy cabin is a 2-4-2 configuration which was a tight squeeze. The legroom was nonexistent. As you can see from the picture below, my legs were already brushed up against the seat back pocket and this is non-reclined.<\/p>\n

The flight got worse when the person in front of me reclined leaving me with no choice but to stretch my legs at an awkward angle.<\/p>\n

The dinner service did not start until an hour into the flight. Usually, the meals are already blasted with heat on the ground so it makes it ready to serve once in the air. The meal was either a choice between chicken and pasta and I chose the chicken entr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

The food wasn\u2019t too bad as it came with a salad, entr\u00e9e, dinner roll, cheese & crackers, and a chocolate cake for dessert. It was definitely a poor man\u2019s three course meal loaded all onto one tray.<\/p>\n

About an hour later, the cleanup began. The meal service took two hours and five hours remained.<\/p>\n

There was a poor man\u2019s business class bar in the rear galley. You can help yourself to hot tea, water, and juices.<\/p>\n

There were also buy on board alcoholic beverage and snack options. I was hungry mid-flight and bought a Cup of Noodles mini size Spicy flavor for 3 euros ~ $4.07 USD. This was the best thing I had eaten on this flight.<\/p>\n

The in-air flight time was 7 hours and 11 minutes according to the 3-D moving map when I landed in Helsinki.<\/p>\n
