Back to Athens and homeward bound

July 2011:

After lunch in Monastiraki, I walked down towards the Acropolis. The museum is across the street from there. It was closed that day so i went to the Acropolis instead.

I was still training for another marathon, but all this walking was really tiring. Yea then i found out that the Acropolis was a few hundred feet up:

So back then, the village was right on the steps of the Acropolis while much of the large and famous structure sat on top of the giant hill. It was a very interesting walk up. The acropolis sits very high so it can be seen in many places around the city.

The next sight was a small theatre area called The Theatre of Dionysos.

The path routes up and around this theater. Its a long way up.

The next was another performance area, the Odeion of Herodes Atticus.

The entrance needed some repair back in 2011. I hope it looks better by now.

The largest ruin was the Parthenon front and center. The large crane explains how they built it thousands of years ago:

I went towards the Ancient Agora, which offers another route to the Acropolis.

View from Entrance of Ancient Agora

First stop was the Agora Museum:

The exit for Ancient Agora was near the Thissio train station. I then walked up to Filopappou Hill and saw the prison of Socrates:

As you keep walking up the hill, you can get different views of the Acropolis:

Got to the top to take a panorama picture:

Also saw Dimon’s Tomb:

The following day, i find out what the poster on the left mean:
