Boston Marathon Bombing Exhibit at the Boston Public Library
I didn’t even know they were displaying the items until a fellow F2B blogger Kathy had mentioned it in her post a few weeks ago: One Year After the Boston Marathon Bombing – An Exhibit at the Boston Public Library. Some of the items were on display for a while at JFK Memorial Library and the rest of it was kept there.
Here were some of the pictures I took last year about a few weeks after the Marathon. Both my parents and my in-laws were in town so we drove them down Boylston Street and walked over to the memorial in Copley Plaza and then down past Marathon Sports and to Forum Resturant, which was still closed at the time.
Even a year after the incident, I still get a bit emotional when seeing all of these items again. My wife and I walked along Boylston street before and after it opened up again to the public as it was only 1/2 mile from our apartment. Even the days and weeks after, the extra security around all the buildings in Boston was a reminder of what happened on Marathon Monday.
The line wasn’t too bad, even for the day before the race. The wait was probably about 30 minutes to get into the small exhibit hall at the library.
This was just a small collection of all of the shoes left at the memorial after the race.
There was an area where visitors could leave a message and hang it up on the trees. My favorite was the small tag that said “love” in Chinese. Such a simple word but beautiful when written out.
