Antarctica Marathon 2014: Day 4: Dahno Island, Michelson Bay

This is a post about the Dahno Island in Michelson Bay.

Day 4: Dahno Island, Michelson Bay (Snowy)

We landed on another island. The bay was a bit rough but we were able to get on the Zodiac without much trouble in the morning. The island was covered with a few feet of snow already and more was coming down. I sank in a few holes along the way onto the main colony. We got much closer to the penguins than before. This involved hiking up and down a fair sized hill.

The shack seen in the distance has been abandoned for quite some time. It is still in good condition as it is used as emergency shelter in case the weather turns.

A large seal was also on the island so we got a good view of that.

The waves was pretty choppy in the afternoon so all excursions was cancelled (including the kayaks) so we took a slow cruise around the bay. We saw over 10 whales in the bay and three were feeding besides the boat. I managed to capture some amazing footage of it.
